Read the passage below and choose the best answer for each question.
The agricultural revolution in the nineteenth century involved two things: the invention of labor-saving machinery and the development of scientific agriculture. Labor-saving machinery naturally appeared first where labor was scare. “ In Europe,” said Thomas Jefferson, “ the object is to make the most of their land, labor being abundant; here it is to make the most of our labour, land being abundant”. It was in America, therefore, that the great advances in nineteen-century agricultural machinery first came.
At the opening of century, with the exception of a crude plow, farmers could have carried practically all of the existing agricultural implements on their backs; by 1860, most of the machinery in use today had been designed in an early form. The most important of the early inventions was the iron plow. As early as 1790 Charles Newbold f New Jersey had been working on the idea of a cast-iron plow and spent his entire fortune in introducing his invention. The farmers, however, would have none of it, claiming that the iron poisoned the soil and made the weeds grow. Nevertheless, many people devoted their attention to the plow, until in 1869 James Oliver of South Bent, Indiana, turned out the first chilled-steel plow.

III. READING COMPREHENSION. (1 pts)
Read the passage carefully and choose the correct answer: True (T), False (F).
Do you know the best thing that ever happened to me? Do you know what it was? It was when I lost my last job. Yes, really! I never liked it; I hated it in fact, just because I was stuck in an office all day with computers and a telephone. Now my hobby is my full-time job! I start work very early. In summer I usually leave home at about 8.00. I have a small van, and I carry all my tools and equipment in that. It's autumn now so I’m tidying the gardens. I'm picking up leaves and pulling up old summer flowers. I'm planting lots of daffodils and tulips. Every season is so different and I love them all. I just love working outside in the open air after all those years in a stuffy office. I never noticed the seasons there. After work I always go home and relax in a hot bath. I have a flat in London but most of my work is outside London, in the suburbs. I’m married with no children. I usually cook our evening meal because my wife gets home from work after me. She's an architect and earns a lot of money, much more than me! She earns more but I think I enjoy my work more. At weekends we often drive into the country and go to antique shops and antique sales. We don't have a television! Can you believe it? Everybody has one these days, but we don't! I collect old radios and my wife collects old cookery books. We have a lovely dog and we often take her on long walks.
I think there is only one problem with my job. It's seasonal, so I don't earn much in autumn and winter. I earn most money in spring and summer. But it's O.K. I earn enough, not enough to eat out often in expensive restaurants or go to shows, but enough for my dog and my hobby. I'm a very happy man!
101. The worst thing that ever happened to the writer was when he lost his job.
102. The writer used to be familiar with paperwork.

People are very interested in robots. Some of it look like mechanical dolls to play with. Most of them look as other machine of today’s high technology. Seriously research on intelligent robots began in the 1960s in several country. Now we are on the fifth generation of robots. The first robots were very expensive. They costly $500,000 when a worker could do the same work for $15 an hour. By the early 1970s, a robot brain, a computer, cost $ 300,000. Today’s robots costs from $15,000 to 150,000.
One of the advantage of robots is that they can work in situations that are dangerous or harmful for human workers. Today there are million of people who work at machines in the world. Robots will replace them. Parts of the problem will be solved because of the decrease in the number of births. There will be less people looking after jobs. Many people will find changes in their jobs, and they will not like some of them. The students of today must be sure that these changes are well. Robots must improve, not harm, the quality of human life.
